Maynard A. Booker

Maynard Ashby Acra Booker, 74, lifelong resident of Gloucester, died on Thursday, July 24, 1997, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester. He was the son of the late John Thomas and Florence Acra Booker.

He retired from the Transportation Department at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in 1980. He was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester and the American Legion Post No. 45. He was also an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. Booker; daughter, Deborah B. Marshall; son, Mark Ashby Booker, all of Gloucester; two sisters, Glendice B. Booker and Francis B. Cooper of Gloucester; one brother, Basil B. Booker of Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren, Ashby Burton Marshall and Farley Gray Marshall. Mr. Booker was predeceased by two sisters, Edith B. Pierce and Alma B. Smith; and one brother, Churchell K. Booker.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home by the Rev. James B. Grimmer. Burial will follow in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
