William/Bill was born to Edgar Leo Akers and Rose Marie (Gallup) Thorson Akers in 1915. His sister Violet Akers MacDonald (1914-1995) came along before him. An unnamed infant b 22 Dec 1918 (d. 11 Jan 1919) didn't thrive after birth. Rose died on 25 Dec 1918 and the infant died 17 days later. It is uncertain whether they died of natural causes or the Spanish flu. His father Edgar took Violet and Edgar William to Bakersfield from Los Angeles, probably to avoid the crowds and flu, and raised them with his 2nd wife Ruth along with the rest of Ruth's and Edgar's children.
