Troy O. Gillespie, 89, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Commonwealth Senior Living.
He was born in Red Ash, Va., a son of the late Rufus and Stella Gillespie. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wives, Betty Shell Gillespie and Alley Day Gillespie; and son, Robert Gillespie.
Troy was a veteran of the Army Air Force having served during the Korean War. He spent several years as a city bus driver in Chicago and in the final years of his career he was a cross country truck driver hauling hazardous materials for Dupont.

Survivors include three brothers, Cecil Gillespie of Richlands, Va., Darrell Gillespie of Roanoke, Va., and David Gillespie of Lebanon, Va.; one granddaughter, Bonita Marshalewaski and husband D.J. of Delaware; and one great grandson, C.J. Gillespie of Delaware.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Commonwealth Senior Living for their passionate care of Troy in his final years of life. They would also like to thank the members of Green Spring Presbyterian Church for embracing Troy into their community.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Green Spring Presbyterian Church. Services will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Inurnment will take place in the church cemetery.
