Israel Wyatt was born in Connecticut. His mother was Mary Bronson Wyatt Graves Allis Gaylord (1627–1688). She was born in England, baptized December 12, 1627 at Earl's Colne, Essex, England, and was the daughter of John Bronson and Frances Hills.

Israel's father, John Wyatt, was Mary's first husband. He was born sometime between 1614 and 1620 in Assington, Suffolk, England. John was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut, lived in Farmington in the 1640's, sold his land in Windsor in 1649, and later moved to Haddam, Connecticut, where he and Mary were among the first settlers. John Wyatt died in 1668 when Israel was an infant.

Israel's wife Sarah Pratt was the daughter of Daniel Pratt and Hannah Warner. Israel was her second husband. She had previously been married to Timothy Phelps. She died in 1758, at 97 and is buried in Hartford, Connecticut in the Ancient Burying Ground with the Phelps family.
