Funeral services for A. Therese Bruyere, age 92, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. Bruyere passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Therese is survived by her sons, Thomas Bruyere and his wife, Debra, of Ogdensburg, Paul Bruyere and his companion, Mary Sanders, of Canton, GA and Bill Bruyere and his wife, Marianne, of Ogdensburg; grandchildren, Aimee Demers-Bourgeois of Plattsburgh, NY, Chris Demers of Chazy, NY, Nicole Demers Changelo of Washington, Nathan Bruyere of Wichita, KS, Andrew Bruyere of Morrisonville, NY, Annalise Given of Hudson, FL, Bill Bruyere II of Denver, CO, Jill Bruyere of Queens, NY and Chelsea Bartlett of Ogdensburg; and fourteen great-grandchildren . She is predeceased by her daughter, Mary Bruyere Demers, in 2002; her brothers, Howard Brown in 1985 and Joseph Brown in 2012 and her sister, Mary Agnes Ackerson in 2011.

Therese was born on December 26, 1925, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Daniel J. and Mary G. Howard Brown, owners of Brown’s Dairy, Inc. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and later graduated from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY, with a degree in Commerce with Education, cum laude. Therese married George F. Bruyere at St. Mary’s Cathedral on July 3rd, 1948 with Rev. J.L. Hammill officiating. He predeceased her on June 26, 2011. Prior to Therese’s marriage she taught at Cape Vincent, NY. For several years Therese had her own real estate and appraisal work in Northern New York.

Therese had a very active life. She was a member of over 60 years to the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary and was actively involved in the Ogdensburg Garden Club for over 50 years. The winter months found her enjoying and assisting the Ogdensburg Command Performance. Back at the time when Key Bank was a new item, Therese was named to the Board. Therese was the first woman ever named to the Board of A. Barton Hepburn – a board on which she served on for 17 years, also serving on the Hospital Board Foundation. Mrs. Bruyere was also named Honorary Marshall for the 2001 Seaway Festival Parade. In March of 2018, Therese was honored for her life dedication and support of the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club.
