According to his obituary published in the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle (Brooklyn NY)" on 09 July 1901, "Edwin S Whitmore , who has been living with his daughters on eighteenth street, college point, died in the flushing hospital yesterday of the infirmities incident of old age. The deceased was about 80 years old and was familiarly known as "Pop" Whitmore. He was a staunch Republican and many years ago received the nomination of assemblyman from his party, but was defeated. He was well known in political circles throughout Queens County. He was noted for his amusing stories. He was buried in the Flushing Cemetery this afternoon."
