Funeral service for Edna Mae Webb Shafer, 98, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Bethel Hawley Baptist Church, Nash, with Revs. Gary Lillie and Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wakita Cemetery, Wakita, under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Edna was born June 11, 1913, southwest of Pond Creek to J.C. and Lillie Ruston Webb and passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Enid. Edna married the love of her life, Floyd Shafer, on Aug. 1, 1932, at her parents’ home in Wakita. They made their home on a farm southwest of Wakita. Floyd passed away Sept. 1, 1987. Edna was a homemaker and also a cook at Gore School. She was the first president of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Community Health Center in Wakita. She was an active member of Bethel Hawley Baptist Church for many years. She also was a member of Nash Senior Citizens. She is survived by her son, Virgil Shafer and wife Barbara of Wakita; brother, Earl Webb and wife Thelma of Blackwell; grandkids, R.D. Burdette and wife Karen of Burburnet, Texas, Mark Burdette and wife Sheila of Wichita Falls, Texas, Shannon Hopkins and husband Gayle of Devol, Okla., Virgil Shafer Jr. and wife Paula of San Antonio, Texas, and Teresa Garrison and husband Dom of Wakita. She had 11 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; daughter, Arlene Burdette and son-in-law, Bob; parents; two sisters; five brothers; one grandson, Geoffrey Shafer; and one great-grandson, Ryan Burdette. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethel Hawley Baptist Church or Hawley Fire Department of CHC, Wakita. Memorials may be made to Wilson Funeral Home, Box 478, Pond Creek, OK 73766.
