Herschel Samuel Hendershot, 59, of 314 Elizabeth St., Mt. Pleasant, died at Central Michigan Community Hospital on Monday, 7 April 1975. He was born April 11, 1915 in Pine Grove, Wetzel County, West Virginia, son of Okey D. Hendershot and Massie Pearl (Cross) Hendershot. He owned and operated a Sinclair service station at 301 S. Mission Street in Mt. Pleasant for 20 years and had worked the last 8 years in the Maintenance Dept. (supervisor) at Central Michigan University. Herschel was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ushers Club and Sacred Heart Parish. Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, April 10, at Sacred Heart Church, Fr. John Thome officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Rosary service will be at 8 pm Wednesday at the Rush Funeral Home. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie (Marge); one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Sharon) Wentworth of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Michael (and wife Kathy Rydahl) of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; six sisters: Laura (Laurie) Fordyce, North Fork Road, Pine Grove, WV, Bonnie Starkey of Richwood Run, Jacksonburg, WV, Alice "Toots" Hendershot of Hargus Creek, Waynesburg, PA, Mabel Barr of Wiley Fork Run, North Fork Road, Pine Grove, WV, Beatrice Huggins of Rt. 7, Knob Fork, WV and Floreine Wright of Richwood Run, Jacksonburg, WV, and two brothers, Hartzel (Bill) Hendershot of Lowman Ridge, Jacksonburg, WV and Gareald Ervin Hendershot of Wolf Run Road, Industry, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Okey (1968) and Massie (1972), one brother, Ray Hendershot (1973) of Industry, PA and three sisters, Goldie Ethel (1914-stillborn), Genevieve Hamilton (1966) also of Mt. Pleasant, and Avis (1930). Pallbearers were Philip Dole, Danny Dulaney, James Hamilton, Mark Schafer, David Weisler, and Kenneth Wright. Friends and family may call at the J.J. Rush Funeral Home.
