Charles E. Herrick, 88, National Avel, past president of the No. 1 Rotary Club of Chicago, first curator of the Winnebago County Historical Society and former Rockford banker, died at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday night in his home after an illness of a year.
Born in Rockford, Mrs. Herric was associated with the old Peoples Bank and Trust company and later the old Manufacturer's National bank here before he moved to Chicago in 1900 and entered the meat brokerage business. He became associated with the Brennan Packing Company which he served as secretary, vice president, and president, before he retired in 1936 ad, returned to Rockford. He also serviced as the president of the Institute of American Meat Packers for two terms.

Mr. Herrick was named curator of the Winnebago County Historical society when the organization was founded in 1940 and was elected president of the group at its second annual meeting. He also was widely known as an amateur photographer.

Mr. Herrick was born August 12, 1863, in Rockford, the son of Elijah L. and Lucy Dunbar Herrick. He married the former Mabel H. Walker March 31, 1887, in Rockford. The Herricks celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Mrs. Herrick is a graduate and trustee of Rockford college.

Surviving are his widow and two nephews, Attorney Robert Ferguson Marshall of Rockford and Wallace Dunbar Herreic, Dayton, Ohio. A son, Alexander Walker Herrick died in 1913.
