Company I, 50th Alabama Infantry, Deas' Brigade, D.H. Hill's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A.

Residence: Madison County, AL.; 6'2", dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, 20 years old.
Enlisted in 1863 in Alabama, he was mustered into Company I, 26th Alabama Infantry as a Private.
Detailed as a teamster, he was present on all Rolls from enlistment until POW 1/1/1865 in Itawamba County, MS.; confined 1/15/1865 Military Prison, Louisville, KY.; transferred 1/16/1865 to Camp Chase, OH., arriving there 1/18/1865; no further record.

The 50th Alabama Infantry Regiment was organized at Corinth, Mississippi, in March, 1862, by consolidating the 2nd and 5th (Golladay's) Alabama Infantry Battalions which were recently recruited. Originally mustered into Confederate service as the 26th (Coltart's) Alabama Regiment, its designation was changed to the 50th in June, 1863. The men were raised in the counties of Calhoun, Jackson, Lauderdale, Blount, Limestone, Walker, Fayette, and Tuscaloosa.

Confederate Veteran, Native of Spotsylvania, Dies at Residence of His Daughter Here.
John Larkin Brumley, age 88 years, died at his home on Main street, Wednesday night at 9:30 o'clock.
Mr. Brumley was a native of Virginia, having been born in Spotsylvania, which he left in the early part of his life to make his home in Alabama.
He was a Confederate Veteran, having served in the 50th Alabama Infantry, Company I, during the entire war.
He left Alabama in 1905, and up to the time of his death, made his home in this city.
He is survived by a daughter, Miss Lillian D. Brumley, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Luck, of Spotsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from his home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, services conducted by Rev. T. Ryland Sanford. The Daily Star - Jan. 21, 1926.
