Arie reported her marital status as "widowed" on both the 1930 and 1940 federal census reports and also on other records such as city directories. Research at this time has located no records for Rufus after 1920 until his burial data in Florida.

Mrs. Arie Fore Christopher, 82, 1001 Burton Street, died Friday morning at a local hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Buncombe County, she had been a resident of Rocky Mount for over 50 years. She was the daughter of the late William J and Mary Barrett Fore and wife of the late Rufus H Christopher. She was a member of the Oakview Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, W Ralph Christopher of Rocky Mount; two daughters, Miss Annie Christopher and Mrs. Mable C. Williams, both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Brown and Mrs. Bertha Richardson of Silver Springs, MD; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Gay-Yost Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Hollifield and the Rev. Johnny Bradley will officiate and burial will be in Rocky Mount Memorial Park . Pallbearers will be Percy Tanner, Roy Walker, Roger Burnette, Sterling Proctor, R. C. Harris, and Tom E. Turner.
