George Eddy Standish II, aged 95, lifelong resident of Middleboro, died on Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Raynham.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy L. (Frye) Standish, who predeceased him on August 6, 2001; they had been married for 58 1/2 years. Born in Middleborough, son of the late Forrest B. Standish and Lillie C. (Sawyer) Standish.

He was a graduate of Middleborough High School. George served in the Massachusetts State Guard prior to enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps, where he served as a Sgt. in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines. Later, he was in the Marine Corps. Reserves. He was a master mechanic at the Maxim Motors, as well as private endeavors, and had worked in maintenance at Oak Point Village until he retired at 88 years old. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. George was an accomplished wood worker and a member of the American Legion Post #64.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy “Rothy” Vaughan of Middleboro, three grandchildren, Lacey J. Mosher, Bari L. Williams, and Michael G. Standish, a sister, Patricia A. Case of Middleboro, 12 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was father of the late George E. Standish III, and Cheryl Kay Girard; brother of the late Ellsworth B. Standish; grandfather of the late Forrest B. Standish.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 28th from 10 am – 12 noon in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro, with a funeral service to be held at 12 noon in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Central Cemetery, Middleboro.
