Son of Charles F. Brush Jr. and Dorothy Adams Hamilton.

Married 3 times, Barbara Porter 1945-1949, one child; Joan Labora 1950-1958, one child; Ellen Sparry 1958-1999, two children.

A Yale graduate, Dr. Brush earned his doctorate at Columbia and, with his wife Ellen, made significant contributions in the field of early Mesoamerican archeology.

Took up mountain climbing, and from 1982-1989 he led five Andean high altitude archaeological expeditions.

At the age of 49, In 1983 he set an altitude record for scuba diving in the world's highest body of water at 19,450 feet atop Lincancabur in Chile.

Discovered a new species of microfauna which he contributed to Yale's laboratories. He was a competitive race walker and completed several marathons well into his 70's.

President of the Explorers Club from 1978-1983.
