From the Yeager Family History in the 1981 Pocahontas County, W.Va. History

William Asbury Yeager was the second child of John & Peggy (Arbogast) Yeager. He attended school at Dayton, Virginia. He drove a stage coach from Top of Allegheny on the Highland & Pocahontas borders to Huttonsville & Beverly, Va. (Now West Virginia). He enlisted at Greenbank April 2, 1862 as a member of Company G, 31st Virginia Infantry. He was detailed to the transportation service in July 1862. After the battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 12, 1864, it was discovered that his uniform had seventeen bullet holes, however Mr. Yeager was unharmed. He was killed at Hatcher's Run, instantly, when a single bullet pierced his heart. Henry Hull of Pocahontas county was in the same battle and saw him fall. Henry Hull along with Williams brother Henry Arbogast Yeager buried William on the battlefield with his gun, saber & canteen.
