WILDER - Ramona "Monie" Hathorn Alexander Wallace, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at her home with Parkinson's disease in the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was born Dec. 28, 1923, at the family homestead in Hartford, the daughter of Elizabeth (Cope) Hathorn and George Hathorn. She was a lifelong resident of the town of Hartford. She attended the one-room Centerville Grade School in Hartford, Hartford High School and graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1944.

She married Frederick Alexander on April 1, 1945. They made their home in Wilder.

She was a firm believer in education. She taught home economics at Hartford High School for 26 years.

On Feb. 6, 1985, she married Donald Wallace at the home of Ernest Hemingway in Key West, Fla. She traveled with her second husband to Belize, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace spent many winters in Key Colony Beach, Fla.

She enjoyed bus tours and staying on the coast of Maine.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol A. Kelton, and a son, Thomas Alexander; two stepdaughters, Pamela Johnson and Donna Seiders; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Corbin of Williston and Eunice Gray of East Calais, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick Alexander, and by her second husband, Donald Wallace; two brothers, Francis "Rip" Hathorn and Byron Hathorn; and two sisters, Thelma McCarthy and Norma Wakefield.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at the White River Junction United Methodist Church in White River Junction.

Burial will follow in the Hartford Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.
