Coon Rapids Enterprise December 29, 1939

Mrs. John Gerber, 80, passed away at her home in Coon Rapids Saturday, Dec. 23, and was laid to rest Tuesday morning in the Catholic cemetery at Coon Rapids. Funeral services were conducted by Father Charles O'Malley from Annunciation church. Pall bearers were Bernice Gerber, Ed Gerber, Matt Bornback, Rudy Meyers, George Greteman. and John Meyers. Elizabeth Mary Bornback was born Sept. 29, 1859, at Glen Haven, Wisconsin in a log cabin and died at Coon Rapids, Iowa Dec. 23 at the age of 80 years. She came to Carroll county when she was 18 years and Nov. 14, 1882, married John Gerber. To this union were born nine children, one son passing away 39 years ago. Surviving are the husband, eight children—Henry of Stuart, Mrs. Lean Schultz of, Coon Rapids, Miss Elizabeth Gerber of Coon Rapids, John C. of Paxton, Nebr., Mrs. Mary Ruddy of Audubon, Frank of Bayard, Jake of Coon Rapids and Mrs. Susie Weeks of Coon Rapids; 21 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters and one brother. Mr. and Mrs. Gerber had been married 57 years. Fifty four of those years were spent on the farm, the last twenty or more on the farm south west of town. For the past three years, they had made their home in Coop, Rapids. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Molitor, Mrs. Chris Gerber of Worthington, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Gerber, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Gerber and Ed Gerbier of Wilmont, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Wiley and daughter, Bettie Long, of Rushmore, Minn.; Ed Meyers, John Meyers, Mrs. Winklebaur, Mrs. Chas. Lenhoff and Mrs. Jake Baker of Randolph, Nebr.; Bill Gerber of Omaha, Nebr, Mr. and Mrs. John Bayer and son and Theresa Wildberding and daughter of Earling; Mrs. Nick Klepper of Defiance; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Franks, Fred Meyers, Wm. Meyers, Rudy Meyers, Wanda Schultz, Matt Bornback, Mr. and Mrs. Wendle Bunting of Carroll; Mrs. Kate Greteman and family of Templeton; Albert Weeks of Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Linn and family of Audubon.
