In 1810 living in Canaan twp,Wayne Co. he helped write the articles for
the Congregational(Presbyterian) Church of Dyberry at Bethany, organized
in 1812.
Jacob was sec. of the Masonic Lodge formed in 1816 at
Bethany.
Around 1818 he married his second wife Louisa Jenkins after divorcing his first wife in 1816. Louisa and Jacob had two daughters and five sons.
In 1819, he was county commissioner's clerk . He was deputy county treas. and county treas. from 1822-1826. In 1821 he was an original member and sec. of the Wayne Co. Agricultural Soc. From 1822-30 he was editor and wrote for the Republican Advocate Newspaper.
