JOHN EVAN MINTON
(age 92)

Born Nov. 16, 1925 in New Albany, Indiana. Son of The Honorable Sherman Minton, Sr. and Gertrude Gertz Minton.
Sherman Minton, Sr. served as a Senator from the State of Indiana, as an advisor to Franklin Roosevelt, and later as a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. John was predeceased by his brother Dr. Sherman A. Minton, Jr., and his sister, Mary Anne Minton Callanan.

After graduating from high school in 1943, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he became a medical corpsman. In 1946, after his discharge, he went to Indiana University and earned a BA in Zoology. He was then called back into the Navy for the Korean conflict. Afterwards, he resumed his education. He switched to art and did postgraduate work at Indiana U, earning a Master of Fine Arts Degree.

Professionally, his work took him to Washington, DC. He worked as a publications designer and illustrator at an art studio. After 10 years, he went to the Department of the Interior and worked for them for 7 years. He then went on to teach art at Clemson University in SC. He has since worked as a freelance designer and illustrator. He has done his work in numerous styles and forms of art, but primarily in painting and carving.

John has been single all his life. He is survived by his companion of over 60 years, Sue Hood, by 4 loving nieces, Brooks, April, Holly, and Janet, and by 4 loving nephews, Patrick, Thomas, Charles, and James.

John passed on August 8, 2018. John was a Catholic. There will be a Mass and memorial service at 10 AM on Monday August 20 at the chapel in Asbury Methodist Village and he will be interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.
