Samuel James Ashby, III, 69, of Gideon Mo., died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center. Born December 20, 1937, son of the late Samuel James Ashby, II, and Virginia Louise Yancey Ashby, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church in Portageville, Mo. On April 5, 1988, he married Mamie Sue Winkle who survives the home.

Other survivors include a son, Louis Ashby and wife, Hope, of Portageville; a step-son, Roger Hill of Blytheville, Ark., two step-daughters, Jennifer Hill of Gideon and Joyce Joiner and husband, Scott of Clarkton, Mo.; a sister, Kathy Lambert and husband, Mike, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Ashby.

Visitation was at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today, Sunday, April 29, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon with Rev. Richard Blagg officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
