Obituary for William Franklin "Bill" Edmonds
A memorial service for William Franklin (Bill) Edmonds will be at Mobberly Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Scott Schulik and Dr. Gregg Zackary. Rader Funeral is in charge of the arrangements. A private family graveside service will be at 10am at the Rosewood Park Cemetery mausoleum. A time of visitation will be at 1pm in the Mobberly Baptist Church worship center foyer with the funeral service following at 2pm.
Bill was born on January 27, 1934 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Charles and Ruth Crouch Edmonds. He grew up in Gurdon, Arkansas where he attended school. He served two years in the US Army stationed in Japan and Korea. He also served 4 years in the US Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana Tech University where he was a member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society, and graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was also presented an award from the Louisiana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineering for accomplishments in civil engineering. He started working at Eastman Kodak as a civil engineer in 1958 serving in many positions throughout his career. He was named a Vice President with responsibilities for operations services on January 1, 1990. He served in this position until his retirement in 1996. He served as a director of the Louisiana Tech Engineering Foundation and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Bill was very involved in the community. He was on the Board of Directors for Longview Regional Hospital and was president in 1999. He served on the Longview Economic Development Corporation as president, director, and secretary. He was a member of the Longview Rotary Club. He was also a member of Pinecrest Country Club serving as a director and treasurer. He was a member at Mobberly Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, including chairman of the deacons for one year. He was a member of the Friends Sunday School class for many years.
Bill married Jerrie Wallace on May 3, 1953, and they celebrated 65 happy years together. After his retirement he enjoyed many years of golf with his friends including several golf trips. He and Jerrie enjoyed many trips together around the world. Bill loved his children and granddaughters and he treasured the times when they were all together, including family vacations.
He is survived by his wife Jerrie, his son Greg Edmonds, his daughter Susan Sutton and husband Jeff, his granddaughters: Samantha Russell, Lauren Sutton and Lindsey Sutton, two brothers: Charles and his wife Pat of St. Petersburg FL, and Paul and his wife Dottie of Knoxville, TN, three sisters: Patsy Castanedo of Dunnellon, FL, Beckie Jolley and husband Larry of Dresden TN, Mary Gay Edwards and husband Mike of Gladewater, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Robert, and three sisters, Beverly Clark, Ella Mae Smith and Betty Fay Edmonds.
We want to thank the nurses and aides at Summer Meadows for the great care that they provided Bill. We want to thank Compass Hospice, especially Marsha and Beverly, for their care of both Bill and his family. We want to thank the staff and friends at Mobberly Baptist Church, especially the Friends Sunday School class, for the love, prayers, support and comfort that you have provided.
