Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kenneth Pritchard officiating.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Jessie Tyson, Bernice Tyson, Jimmy Tyson, Derek Stewart, Grant Stewart and Kyle Stalls.
Mr. Tyson was born in Pitt County, Dec. 10, 1928. He was the son of the late Joe John Tyson and Bessie Adams Tyson. Mr. Tyson farmed in the Calico area of Pitt County until he moved to Washington in 1966. He moved to the Old Ford community in 1969 and resided there until his death. Mr. Tyson worked as a carpenter from 1969 until 1990.
Mr. Tyson was married to the former Esther Earl Stokes, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Jill Whitfield and husband Ricky of Bear Grass, Terry Stalls and husband Phil, Regana "Faye" Hardin and husband Jeff, and Regina "Gaye" Stewart, all of Washington; three brothers, Jessie Tyson and Bernice Tyson, both of Washington, and Jimmy Tyson of Winterville and one sister, Ann Woolard of Chocowinity; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by a grandson, Rusty Shane Stewart.
The visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home, 500 Mill Road, Washington.
