"In 1824 some of the members of the Brethren Church in Uinon County, Illinois recorded a deed in Union County that was entitled "The Absolution of Absalum." These people purchased the slave, Absalum, and set him free by way of this deed. About 25 people signed this deed. The otherfamily names are Daugherty, Flach, Galliher, HUNSAKER, Lewis, Littleton, Minton, Parsons, Price, Vancil, WIGLE and WOOLF. Union County was strongly pro-slavery in 1824. It took considerable courage to sign this deed."
