Jesse Stott, 77, lifetime Provo postal employee until his retirement last year, died at his home, 742 N. 200 E., Tuesday evening following a long illness. He was born June 16, 1890 at Meadow, the eldest son of the late A1ison Alger and Eliza Jane Bishnell Stott. He attended, the Murdock Academy for two years and two years at the Hinckley Academy, where he was in the first class to graduate from that school. After graduation from the academy, at Hinckley, he attended the Brigham Young Academy at Provo. He married Paloma Marie Whitaker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Nov. 7, 1917. Soon after his marriage he was drafted as a soldier in World War 1, and. after his discharge he lived in Meadow, until Sept., 1927, at which time he moved his family to Provo where he has lived since. He was employed at the' Provo post office, from which he was retired Feb. 1, 1960, after 28 years service. He received several merit citations from the postal department for suggestions he contributed for the more efficient conduct of the post offices. Active all of his life in the LDS Church, he has filled many callings, among which were secretary of the Deacons Quorum, secretary of the Elders Quorum, counselor in the Elders Quorum presidency, genealogy teacher, ward genealogical chairman, ward clerk under three bishoprics, stake secretary of the High Priest Quorum. At the time of his death he was serving as ward teaching supervisor, chairman of the Ward Old Folks Committee and was the First Counselor in the Provo Stake High Priests Quorum.! He was recently honored hi recognition of 25 years of perfect attendance at his priesthood, Sunday School and sacrament meetings. Mr. Stott was active i in the American Legion. For two years he was adjutant for the Wasatch Veterans Post, was chaplain for several years, in the Dean Mendenhall Provo Post 13, was chap- plain of District 4 for one year, was commander of Post 13 for one year and was secretary and treasurer of the Veterans Council of Provo for several years. He is survived by his widow; his son, Douglas Whitaker Stott, and two grandchildren, Linda Ellen and Lowell Douglas, all of Provo. His first son, Jesse Lowell, died in 1937.
