Alden M. Swenson, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at Georgetown Place Assisted Living in Fort Wayne.

He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late David M. and Mildred (Granlund) Swenson.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II.

He married Betty Jean Holsinger on Dec. 29, 1946, in Howe, and she passed away Feb. 24, 2008.

Alden worked for 64 years as a skilled carpenter.

He was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Auburn.

Alden was an avid woodworker and enjoyed cooking and painting. He also enjoyed teaching carpenter apprenticeship classes at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.

In 2010, Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana took Alden, and several others, to Washington, D.C., to see memorials built in their honor.

Surviving are three children, Martin (Kathy) Swenson of Fort Wayne, Gary Swenson of Fort Wayne, and Vicki (Ron) Marhenke of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Martina (Kurt) Tippman, Beau (Cindy) Swenson, Heather (Aaron) Wathall, Brett (Erin) Marhenke, Staci Swenson, Daniel (Destiny) Swenson, and Tyler Swenson; 13 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Glenn Swenson of Maine, and Janice (Bob) McLean of New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Allen Swenson; and two brothers, Edsel Swenson and Lyle Swenson.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 211 W. 9th St., Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Dan Bellinger will be officiating. Burial will take place in Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Visitation also will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.

Memorials may be directed to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana, Allen County SPCA, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
