Frances Charles Humphreys Nelson died on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on November 22, 1923, in Claiborne County, MS. Frances Charles was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She received a Masters degree in counseling from Mississippi College. She served as a teacher and guidance counselor for the Claiborne County school system for many years and then at Chamberlain-Hunt Academy. She was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church serving as lay reader for over 25 years. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, president of the Episcopal Church Women, and she was a member of Episcopal Cursillo.
She was a past member and officer of the Pathfinder Chapter of the DAR, a member of First Families of Mississippi, and of the Debutante Club of Mississippi.
She also served with Christian Volunteer Services in Port Gibson for over 20 years where she was involved with their Meals on Wheels Program and prison ministry.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde L. Nelson, Jr. and Percy M. McCaa, her son Nelson R. McCaa, and her sister Nancy H. Frazier.
