II Timothy 4:6-8 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. IVAN KELSON COOPER, 85 of Milton went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 14, 2006, after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Winford Curry and the Rev. Chelcie Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. He was the son of the late Albert and Rosie Jenkins Cooper. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Floyd, Boyd and Johnnie; two sisters, Marie Cooper Black and Agnes Cooper Hicks; and two very special nephews, E.W. Cooper and James Stiles Cooper. I.K. touched the lives of thousands of students in eastern Cabell County through his work with the Cabell County Board of Education. Throughout his more than 40 years of service, he taught and was principal at Meadowfield, Cooper, Lower Creek, Central, Pleasant View, Culloden, Nichols and Milton elementary schools. During his spare time he farmed and enjoyed quail hunting. After each season, many enjoyed the annual "Bird Feed." He was very active with his church, Chestnut Grove Baptist. He taught various Sunday School Classes and served as Senior Deacon for many years. He was also a member of the West Virginia Republican Committee, Phi Delta Kappa, West Virginia Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals and Lebanon Lodge #68 AF&AM. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Courts Cooper; a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Joyce Cooper, and grandchildren Kelsi Leigh and Colin Andrew Cooper. Also surviving is a sister, Anice Cooper Conrad. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
