Garry was born on September 16, 1939 in Staples, MN to Glenn and Edith (Klos) Quance. Garry was a Staples High School graduate of the class of 1939. He was a successful basketball and baseball player and continued to be an avid sports fan throughout his life, particularly of the Twins and Vikings.

Garry worked as a supervisor at Great Northern Railroad in St. Paul, where he met Gloria Reins.

They were united in marriage on October 5, 1968 at Fort Snelling.

Garry then moved to Montgomery, where he acquired and operated Pla Mor Lanes for 7 years from 1968 - 1975. He also worked as an insurance broker for Citizens State Bank in Montgomery, a sales representative covering a 5 state area for the Saint Paul Auto Dealers, and finally as the owner and CEO of his own company, Professional Parts Wholesalers.

“Quancey” loved the Montgomery Mallards baseball organization, whom he helped found and managed for several years. He also organized and ran the Kolacky softball tournament for many years, as well as served on the Holy Redeemer School Board.
After realizing that “retirement” was not one of his favorite activities, Garry worked part-time at Coborns in New Prague, where he enjoyed working with the young adults and visiting with the customers. Garry loved working in his garden, playing cribbage and the piano, traveling, and was an avid reader.

Garry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria Quance of Montgomery; children, Micki Quance (Tracy) Main of Los Angeles, CA, Debra (Scott) Olson of the Twin Cities, and Barb Khosti, of the Twin Cities; siblings, Kay Doepner, Pam Harris, Jody Quance, and Pat Quance.

Garry is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Brian and David Quance; brother, Michael Quance; mother-in-law, Eleanor Kauffmann, and brother-in-law Michael Shimek.

Arrangements are with the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
