Cloyd William "Sonny" Windom, 86, of Amarillo rode in his last round-up on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Sonny was born October 24, 1931, in Stillwater, Oklahoma and grew up in Spearman, Texas. His parents were Tip and Agnes Windom. One of Sonny's fondest memories was receiving his first horse, saddle and custom-made boots at the age of six from Papaw and Mamaw Wilmeth. He graduated from Spearman High School in 1949 and attended college on a football scholarship at TCU.

Sonny joined the United States Air Force on January 8, 1951. He was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas.

On June 9, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Mona Beth Hester. All three of his children were born before the end of his military service in October 1954. Mona Beth preceded him in death in 1995.

In 2009, he married Barbara Daly of Amarillo. Sonny said these were the two best marriages anyone could have.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Windom, of the home; two sons, Walter "Wally" Windom and wife Susan, of Dallas, and Phillip Windom, of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Jody Rex, of Euless, TX; a sister, Mickella Windom, of Lubbock; a brother, Ron Windom, of Lubbock; a stepson, Kerry Daly and wife Blaza, of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Brandon and wife Robin, Tiffani and husband Roger, Jeremy and wife Lauren and Chad; and four great-grandchildren, Chambri, Kennedy, Monabella and Elliot.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Tip and Agnes Windom, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilmeth.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., today, Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 1401 South Polk Street in Amarillo at the Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Hansford Cemetery in Spearman. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the hospice in Spearman, TX.
