Elnathan Caudill / Cordell was born around 1795 to Benjamin and Sarah Caudill in North Carolina. He was married to Sarah E Jennings (1793-1886) circa 1810. No marriage record has been found. His last name has been written as Caudill, Cordel, Cordell, Cordle, Caudle, etc.

Elnathan first apppears on a North Carolina land grant (#2989) for 50 acres in Wilkes County, NC issued Dec. 5, 1815 located on the waters of Mulberry Creek. On the 1818 George Property Tax Digests in Franklin County, George, he is entered as L Nathan Caudle along with his brothers John and Stephen. He is then found on the 1820 United States Federal Census in Habersham, Georgia as Elnathan Cordel in the age bracket (26-44), along with 4 females under 10, and 1 female aged (26-44). Elnathan's father Benjamin relocates from Wilkes County, North Carolina to Habersham, Georgia, as he also appears on the 1820 census in Habersham, Georgia as Benjamin Cordell.

Elnathan does not appear on any more census records in Georgia. His wife Sarah E. Jennings appears next on the 1850 census record living with her daughter, Malinda and son-in-law, Soloman Sparks in Marion, Owen County, Indiana. Their son's Nathan and William also followed to Owen County, Indiana. Sarah then moves to Missouri., as well as her sons William and Nathan and her daughter Malinda and her husband Soloman Sparks. Sarah is then seen living with her son William Caudill on the 1860 & 1880 census in Harrison, Mercer County, Missouri. Sarah dies Aug 22, 1886 and is buried in Saint Paul Cemetery in Mercer County, where she is listed as the wife of Eli Cordle, maiden name Jennings and born in North Carolina.

It is unknown to me when Elnathan died. His youngest know child, William Sandford Cordle was born in 1827 in Habersham, Georgia. Elnathan clearly did not follow Sarah to Indiana and Missouri. Some genealogists believe he left his family and moved to Tennessee and died there. I have not received any proof of this yet. Any information on this will be greatly appreciated. I will keep looking.
