Mary is recorded with her parents in the 1880 Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas census and with her father and siblings in the 1895 Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas state census. She is recorded as the head of the family in 1900 with several of her younger siblings.

Mary and her sister, Kate, resided with their brother Ed in 1910 and Mary and Kate are recorded together in the 1915 state census and the 1920 federal census in Leavenworth, Kansas. Several records show that Mary and Kate, and also Lena, were seamstresses or tailors, both single. Records show that their father was a wagon maker.
