On September 18, 2008, Elaine Overturf was taken to the eternal reward prepared for her by Jesus. She was met there by many loved ones, including her husband, “Doc,” who died in 1984. Elaine’s loving presence is greatly missed by her daughter Dorothy Maserang (husband Tom) of Brighton, and sons Ron Overturf (Pam) of Thayer, and Danny Overturf (Jeanie Sullivan) of Brighton; grandson Weston Overturf of Springfield; daughter Darlene Gunsolus (Dan); and granddaughters Genevieve and Sarah, of Jacksonville, Florida. Elaine is also survived by her sister, Lois Smaltz, of Teton Village, Wyoming, and brother Rev. Richard Anderson, of Santa Rosa, California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine’s parents, Rev. Lawrence Anderson, of California, and Fern Anderson, of Springfield, passed away in 1999. Elaine was born in Minot, North Dakota, on January 31, 1937, and lived in California until 1984, when “Doc” died and the family re-settled in Thayer. After a few years, Elaine came to Springfield, where she had a long career managing Mr. Gatti’s and Denny’s restaurants. For the past eight years, Elaine worked with the Assemblies of God headquarters in Contributor Services, whom Mom thought of as her second family. Elaine also made many friends in her role as special assistant to her daughter at the popular “Dorothy’s Digs” Nursery in Brighton. Elaine will be missed by everyone for her wonderful smile and cheerful attitude. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on September 22, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on September 23, in Park Crest Assembly of God, 3581 S. Kansas in Springfield. Online condolences may be shared at [email protected]. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund c/o Assemblies of God.
