Amanda Gist - Education Leader
Amanda Gist, a cornerstone of Baxter County education for 60 years died Tuesday at Baxter Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. ( Thursday ) at The United Methodist Church of Mountain Home with Dr. Charles Casteel officiating. Burial will be in The Mountain Home Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Rev. Bayless, Roy Finley, R.M. Ruthven, Jr., Odus Hargrave, Frank Ortman, Herbert Pittman, Chester Stoddard, Robert Baker, Carl White, Jeff Hackler, and Lloyd Fisk. Miss Gist, a lifetime resident of Baxter County, was born April 15, 1899 at Clarkridge, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bledsoe Gist. She was a graduate of The University of Arkansas and served as an elementary school teacher in Baxter county for 60 years. She retired in 1952. The Cotter Elementary School bears her name. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home. Miss Gist is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
