August 10, 2018

Frances Emma Thomas of New Smyrna Beach went to Heaven on August 10, 2018. Born in New Smyrna Beach to Harold and Frances Brown Bowley, Frances was a lifelong resident of this area. A homemaker for most of her life, she worked as a bookkeeper for several years at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

So many people were blessed to have her in their lives. She was the neighborhood matriarch, lovingly known as Mrs. T. She loved Elvis Presley, country music (the good stuff), and dancing. She collected elephants and could tell you the story about each one she received. Her favorite thing in life was spending time with her children and beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Elmer A. Thomas and his wife, Justine, of New Smyrna Beach, Alan L. Thomas and his wife, Martha, of New Smyrna Beach, Dewey D. Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Rome, Georgia, and James H. Thomas, of New Smyrna Beach; two daughters, Carla E. Thomas, of New Smyrna Beach, and Jeanine Mattison and her husband, John of Corbin, Kentucky; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, in 1981.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 16 at Settle-Wilder's chapel, with Brother Jimmy Burch, Shady Grove Church of God, officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery.
