Mary Katherine Downing, age 73, of Marion passed away at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City on August 2, 2018.
Mary was born on June 8, 1945 to George and Volo (Shively) Boyd. Mary married Thomas Gene Downing at the Marion Methodist Church on December 21, 1963.
Mary was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church for many years. She loved reading, shopping, crossword puzzles, spending time with her grandkids, baking cookies, and being outdoors-usually barefoot. She worked and volunteered at the Marion Public School, Cadillac Schools, and Cadillac Hospital. Mary also worked 30 years at the Marion Public Library.
Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas; children, Suzanne Marie (David) Sipe of Petoskey, Mark Alan (Stephanie) Downing of Lapeer; grandchildren, Tucker Sipe, Thomas Alan Downing, Taylor Downing, Skylaar Hall, and Devynn Hall; brother, George David (June) Boyd of Mancelona; sister-in-law, Linda Baughan of Marion; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Rachel) Downing of Venice, Fla., and John (Mary) Downing of Marion; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Barney.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) Baughan; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Baughan.
