Mrs. Minnie Mae Atkins Mason, age 79, of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday, August 08, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born April 19, 1939 to the late William Howard and Lola Frances Mace Atkins. She was married for 62 years to the love of her life, Herbert Alan Mason, mother of six children, grandmother of seventeen and great-grandmother of six and a special care-giver Jessica Walker. She was a vibrant lady whose kindness and compassion for others knew no bounds. She dedicated many years as a devoted Sunday school teacher at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she loved and taught young children. She spent many afternoons walking downtown with her little, white dog, Daisy. Known for her extraordinary luck and quick wit she cherished life’s small blessings and the values of unconditional love and real friendship. In her own words, “we sure did have a good time.” Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Herbert Alan Mason; sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Marisa Mason, Adam and Brenda Mason; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Felix (buzz) Hebert, Michelle and Dr. David Jackson, Robin and Bobby Fitzgibbons; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by a son, Jay Mason; sisters, Faye Hiatt, Rita Hiatt, Aura Akers, Juanita Lower; brothers, William (Bill) Atkins, Jay Atkins and a granddaughter Allana Mae Mason. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mount Airy with services conducted by Bishop John Bradley. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time for the service at the church.
