Peter was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Bruyere of Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada and he enlisted in the US Army. With orders for duty in Vietnam he arrived on September 19, 1969 where he was assigned to and served with B Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, USARV.

On May 25, during a combat operation in Binh Dinh Province elements of B Company encountered the enemy near Hill 274 some 8 kilometers northeast of Phy My. During the engagement, seven men were killed in action, one of the casualties was SP4 Bruyere who was killed by hostile rifle fire.
