Alice M. Bowen, 94, of Blackwater Virginia, went home to be with her sweet Jesus on the morning of August 4, 2018.

Alice was a devout Christian, avid Scrabble player, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and a friend to many. Her family was her pride and joy, especially her girls and her son. She often said she didn't know what she would do without them and now we don't know what we will do without her. Our comfort comes from knowing what our mom taught us - that she is in a far better place where there is no more pain or suffering.

Alice was born in Pattonsville, VA, on March 5, 1924, to Hop and Parie Matney (predeceased). She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Earnest Tomlinson and Cecil Bowen; still born infant, Sheila Ann Tomlinson; daughter and son-in-law, Portia and David Ramsey; daughter-in-law, Sharon Tomlinson; grandson, Danny Ray Osborne; and sister, Irene Payne.

Alice is survived by her son, Bob Tomlinson; daughters, Sharon Payne (Lawrence); Gail Nickles; Debbie Hood (Garry); Fran Doyle (Stacey); Shana Mae Price (Fiancée Mat Johnson); stepchildren, Donald Bowen, Ronald Bowen (Londa), Mary Ellen Blalock, and Peggy Inman; sister, Nellie Thompson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Robinette Funeral Home in Blackwater, VA. The funeral will immediately follow visitation with Reverend David Dillon and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. The graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, at the Matney Cemetery in Pattonsville, VA officiated by Evangelist Garry Hood. Friends and family will meet at Robinette Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. to join the procession to the graveside. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express their special appreciation to the staff at Ridgecrest Nursing Home and Caris Hospice Care who provided such wonderful care and support to their mother and the family during these last days. Thank you!

Mother of Sheila Ann, Portia, Bob, Sharon, Gail Debbie, Fran amd Shana Mae Tomlinson.
