Jody married the love of his life, Sandra Washington, on November 2, 1979 at the Muskogee Open Door Community Church. They shared over 38 years of a happy life and marriage together.
Jody worked at The Muskogee VA in the records department for many years until his retirement in 2000. He also worked at Green Light Auto and Kate Frank Manor. Jody was the pastor of Vann Lake Baptist Church for 24 years. He loved the Lord and shared his love for Him with everyone he knew. Jody and his family sold Indian tacos, cobbler and other concessions items out of their trailer to raise money for many church events. He enjoyed going on road trips and attending gospel singings. Jody loved singing and playing his harmonica for any occasion. His sense of humor and very contagious laugh will forever be cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.
He was preceded death by his parents, Duce and Maggie Carey; brothers, James, Andy, Willie, Norman and Bruce Carey.
Jody is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Carey of the home; daughters, Jammie Hobbs and husband Tommy of Wagoner, OK, Lee Ann Malchaski and husband Darold of Yukon, OK and Maggie Cornell and husband Billy of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Keaton Cornell and Meredith Malchaski; sister, Rebecca Carey-Drywater; brothers, Billy Ray Carey and wife Robin of Lawrence, KS and Tim Carey and wife Shelly of Greasy, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Wake service will be 5:30P.M.-7:30P.M., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
A celebration of Jody’s life will be 2:00P.M., Friday, August 10, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Kinney and Bro. Miller Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Hulbert, OK with Darryl Chuculate, Stephen Drywater, Paul Carey, Derrick Estrada, Brian Glory and Kasey Drywater serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Drywater, Billy Cornell, Joe Jr Washington and Tommy Hobbs.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York St, Muskogee, OK.
