Arlenna was born December 22, 1933, in LaBelle, Idaho, the daughter of Orian Smout and Elva Mae Morgan Smout. She attended Rigby schools and graduated from Rigby High School. On October 31, 1952 she married William VaNoy Hansen of Newdale, Idaho. She taught piano lessons while raising her children and had many students in the LaBelle area. In 1962, she and VaNoy divorced. On July 12, 1977 she married Lawrence Raymond Hoopes.

Arlenna was a devoted friend, grandmother, and mother not only to her children but also to many of her childrens friends. Arlenna worked for D L Cleaners performing alterations and seamstress work. She also had worked for Sunset Sports as a cashier, in the Deli at Albertsons, and in the fabric department of Wal-Mart in Boise. She was an avid seamstress. She loved to crochet, paint, and do beadwork. She could see a design or pattern, draw it up, and make a dress from it.

Arlenna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a chorister to the Primary, a teacher, and a Young Womens leader. Primary songs were her favorite. Even in the time before her passing, her loved ones surrounded her while they sang primary songs.
