Annie is the daughter of the late James Chambers and Mary Straford Chapman. In 1880 she was living in Shelby County, Texas with her parents, four brothers, John E. Chapman, William A. Chapman, James H. Chapman and Daniel Chapman and one sister, Mattie E. Chapman and one uncle, James Straford.
On May 29, 1894 Annie married Lynn Chester Hanks and had two children, one daughter, Capitola Hanks and one son, Lynn Chester Hanks Jr. In 1900 Annie and Lynn were living in Shelby County, Texas. with their two children.

In the Shriner Gazette June 10, 1903 there is an account of a shooting in Garrison, Nacogdoches County, Texas of which Annie's brother, William was killed with Lynn and Annie being wounded.

Mrs. Lynn Hanks one of the victims from the shooting tragedy passed away last night after weeks of suffering from an infection from the gunshot wound in her shoulder. Mrs. Hanks leaves a host of family and friends.
