Virgil grew up in Burlingame and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1945. In the late 1940's he moved with his family to Lyndon, where he has lived since.
Virgil attended Clark Business School and then served in the United States Army with the 189th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean War. He farmed with his dad for several years and worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers at Forbes Field in Topeka and at Melvern Lake. He was a member of the American Legion Post #125, the Masons of Euclid Lodge #101 A.F. & A.M. and the Lyndon United Methodist Church.
On January 24, 1954, Virgil was married to Virginia Wark in Lyndon. Virginia preceded Virgil in death on May 4, 1991. On February 25, 1995, Virgil married Phyllis Peters at Lamont Hill.
Virgil is survived by his wife Phyllis of the home; his two children, Linda (Bill) Hurt of South Lake, Texas and Jim (Marsha) Silver of McPherson; his two step children, Sandra Lindsey of Wichita and Mark Peters of Wakarusa, his brother, Jerry (Ruth) Silver of Melvern; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services for Virgil will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 17 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Burlingame Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyndon High School Honor Flight, sent in care on Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
