Mr. Crain was born Dec. 3, 1884 in Ludlow, the son of Joseph Crain and Marguerite Louise Gudgell Crain, and attended school at Utica. On May 9, 1909, he was married to Irene Bland at Chillicothe. She died April 4, 1959. Mr. Crain was retired from the Burlington Railroad where he had been employed 43 years. He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. church and had spent his entire lifetime in Livingston County.
His survivors include two sons, Charles of Chillicothe and Earl of Kansas City; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Nelson of Omaha, Neb.; twelve grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; four great-nephews; and a sister-in-law of Chillicothe.
