Paul Steiger, 88, formerly of Park Falls, died Wednesday, July 19.
Services were held Monday, July 24, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Bessemer, MI
Burial was in Hilcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.
He was born and raised on a farm in rural Phillips. His parents were Jacob and Anna (Reider) Steiger.
He married Dorothy Tomczak Oct. 22, 1936, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls. She preceded him in death Sept. 6, 1999.
He moved to Gogebic County nearly 60 years ago, establishing a sawmill and grain door business at Black River Harbor. The Steigers established a sawmill business in Bessemer in 1945 and later added a building center.
Steiger was a key player in the construction of Big Powderhorn Mountain ski resort in 1963, and the family's involvement in the ski industry grew through the establishment of Blackjack.
