Monticello the last fifty years, and not until two months ago did he leave his old home and go to live with his daughter. Although he was advanced in years, he was remarkably agile. He was a member of the order of the I.O.O.F. and a veteran of the civil war, having served in company K of the 21st Regiment of the Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was born in Germany, March 18, 1834, and came to America when but a small boy. He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Rasele, in 1863. To this union were born four children, only one of whom is living. There are also three grandchildren surviving.
