Mark Chirban, of Rolla, was called to be home with the Lord after suffering a heart attack at their home on Sunday morning. He was 49 years old.

Mark was born in Chicago on December 11, 1957. His family moved to Boscobel, Wisconsin during his high school years where he excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling. He then attended LaCrosse University where he studied physical education and physiology. He moved to Missouri with his father in 1980 at the time Vessell's Fitness was being built and opened. Peggy Vessell hired him as a racquet stringer and fitness trainer. The couple became husband and wife and business partners. They have operated the facility together throughout these 26 years. Mark and Peggy have 2 sons, David and Nathan. Mark chose to home school his children so that he would be their main mentor and influence. He poured everything he knew of the Lord, academia, and sports into his children.

Mark was a man known for his love of God, athletics, and knowledge. He would spend countless hours in research, in which he never tired trying to gain more knowledge. His heritage was Greek and he enjoyed the art of debate but he was also a passionate listener to friends.

Over the years, Mark was involved in many youth sports, coaching recreation and competitive basketball, soccer, tennis and racquetball. He was on the boards of RATS, RAYSL, and SIR for many years and continued as referee assignor for RAYSL until recently. He was a USRSA racquet stringer and enjoyed being involved with the area athletes in the capacity.

The Chirban family headed a ministry team called Christian Drama Force. The team toured throughout Missouri performing the interpretive arts that spread the gospel message.

A visitation for Mark will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 at the Null & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with interment following the service at Lake Spring Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Null & Son Funeral Home of Rolla, Missouri.
