He was united in holy matrimony to Margaret Louise (Varn) Chavis on December 24, 1949. This union was blessed with 5 children.
Mr. Chavis was a devoted husband and father. He was self-employed as a HVAC contractor for 64 years. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He quietly departed this life at 10:46 am Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Walter Chavis, grandson Dwayne Lamar Chavis, brothers Shelley Chavis and Wiley Chavis and sisters Modell Provo and Caroline Hudson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Louise Chavis; children, Wyman (Linda) Chavis, Margaret (Frank) Thomas, Loretta (John) Livingston, Teresa (Scott) Echerer, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Brothers: Morris (Lillie) Chavis and Raymond Chavis; sisters: Norma Lee (Frederick) Hoffman and Pansy Ruston. His precious life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family.
Family visitation will be held at Barr-Price Funeral Home located at 609 Northwood Road in Lexington, SC 29072 from 6pm to 8 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2018.
The memorial service will be held at Barr- Price Funeral Home in Lexington on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2 pm.
The burial will be held immediately afterward in Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170
