Adaruth was born to Ada Marie Swayze and Harry Hudson Mays. She grew up on her family's farm near Howe with siblings Jack, Maxine and Peggy. She attended Catron and Howe grade schools.

As there was no transportation available from her home to the high school in Arco, she lived with her older sister in Tacoma, Washington, and attended high school there for three years. She thought of Maxine as her second mother and the two remained very close throughout their lives. During her senior year the public schools in Arco started providing transportation from Howe, so she returned home and graduated with honors from Arco High School class of 1952. After graduation she started working as a secretary for Westinghouse on the INL site.

In 1955 she married Don Allen Waddoups at the family home in Howe in a civil service officiated by Hazel Clendenning. They lived in Logan, Utah, for three years while Don attended Utah State University, then moved to Idaho Falls in 1958 and purchased a house on the west side of town, where they lived until her passing. Working as secretary at Temple View Elementary School for over 20 years, she was beloved by students and faculty alike.

Decades after retiring from Temple View she was often greeted warmly by former students with stories of how she'd put a band-aid on a skinned knee or called their mother when they were sick. Later in life, she enjoyed flower gardening, reading biographies and other non-fiction books, spending time with her family and attending cow cuttings with her husband.

She developed very special bonds with her three great-grandchildren. She loved attending sporting events, school activities and getting together for holidays.

Survivors beside Don included her 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services held at Howe Community Center.
