Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2007 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Saul Sonnier, 91, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. John Cemetery

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Thelma Legere Sonnier of Lafayette; two sons, Edward Sonnier and his wife, Margaret and David Sonnier and his wife, Judy all of the Ossun Community; one daughter, Martha Sonnier Day and her husband, Tom of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Hebert, Sarah Richard, Sidney Sonnier, Freddie Sonnier, Alcee Sonnier, Frank Sonnier, Louis Sonnier, Clovis Sonnier, Armany Sonnier, Hector Sonnier, Zachary Sonnier; and two infant children, Suzanne Marie Sonnier and Therese Marie Sonnier.

Saul Sonnier will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He was a graduate of Scott High School, and went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX with a degree in Dairy Science in 1937. He was an active member of the Lafayette Chapter of the Texas Aggies Club for years, and he was, incidentally, the oldest living Aggie in Lafayette - a title he was honored to have. Mr. Sonnier proudly served his country during World War II, as a member of the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre of Operations in New Guinea as a Communications Officer.

After completing his service in the US Army, he returned to Lafayette to become the Supervisor of the Veterans on the Farm Training Program for Lafayette Parish.In addition, he owned and operated the Blue Boy Dairy in Ossun, Louisiana.In 1948, he entered the field of Real Estate and Commercial Development. He was one of Lafayette's first Realtors. He's been a member of the Realtors Association for years.

Mr. Sonnier developed I-10 industrial park on Ambassador Caffery near I-10, and built homes in White Subdivision, Tanglewood Subdivision, Bendel Gardens, and developed Green Briar Subdivision in St. Landry Parish. He owned and operated Saul Sonnier Real Estate, and worked until very recently. He was a member of Lafayette Rotary Club since 1960, and was actively involved with the organization. In addition, he was a member of Les Amis de CODOFIL, International Good Neighbors, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served as an Usher at St. John's Cathedral for more than 40 years.
