She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Columbia College and Masters Degree in Special Education from South Carolina State University. She was a teacher with Orangeburg District 4 & 5 as well as Willington and Orangeburg Prep. She was formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg and is currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort. Also, she was a past President of the Junior Service League of Orangeburg.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years: Richard Scott Nickel of the home; two sons: Richard Moncrief Nickel (Amanda) of Cameron and Scott McDaniel "Dan" Brailsford Nickel (Amy) of Ridgeville; brother: John "Johnny" Francis Brailsford, Jr. (Janet) of Orangeburg; two sisters: Florence "Florie" Brailsford of The Oaks and Elizabeth Brailsford Pierce (Mike) of Ruffin; two sisters-in-law: Leigh Anne Nickel (Charles) of Davie, FL and Janis Lane Nickel (Danny) of Anderson; step-mother-in-law: Barbara Bly Nickel of Greenville; two step-sisters-in-law: Brenda Bly Baitinger (David) of Coral Gables and Teresa Bly Garrick (Tommy) of Greer; four grandchildren: Arleigh Nickel, George Nickel, Isabella Nickel and Julianna Nickel; two nieces; and two nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, Orangeburg and continue at Shady Grove Plantation and Nursery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to: First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, 1201 North Street, Beaufort, SC 29902 OR First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg, 650 Summers Avenue, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Dukes Harley Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
