Obituary
EDNA MAE ABERCROMBIE Edna Mae Abercrombie passed away peacefully October 15, 2001 at Boyne Lodge in Carman with her family at her side. Mae was born at Roland on May 22, l909 to Duke and Almira Swain. She attended Pomeroy Elementary School and Roland Collegiate, then graduated as an R.N. from Carman General Hospital in 1933. In 1939, Mae married the late Dr. W.V. Edwards. They had two children, Heather Lynne (Lloyd) Bond and Vincent L. (Doreen) Edwards. There are seven grandchildren, Christopher, Deborah, and Richard Bond and Wendy (Rene) Fontaine, Jamie (Tammy) Edwards, Daniel (Lori) Edwards and Stacey Edwards; five great-grandchildren, Colin and Derek Fontaine, Natalie Edwards, Kyle and Cody Edwards. In 1958, Mae married Fred S. Abercrombie of Carman, MB and they lived in Roland until Freds passing in 1996. In June of 1997, Mae moved to Boyne Lodge, Carman. The family would like to thank Boyne Lodge staff and volunteers for all their wonderful care and compassion. We would be remiss not to mention the wonderful friendship which developed between Mae & Judith Wiebe. Thanks again. Mae is survived by two sisters, Laura (Leo) Beinder of Rossland, BC and Olive Harvey of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Chris Swain of MacKenzie, BC; and brother-in-law Kirk Palmatier of Winnipeg, as well as family and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and friends. Predeceased by three brothers, Grenville, George and Mathew; two sisters, Kathleen Swain and Victoria Palmatier and her parents. Mae was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 60 years, a W.I. and U C W member and an honorary member of the Roland Ladies Curling Club. For many years Mae was the Doctors assistant in Roland. After the local hospital closed its doors, she continued to handle many small medical emergencies that occurred in Roland and District. Funeral service will be held at Roland United Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery on Friday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CNIB or to Roland United Church. Doyles Funeral Chapels in care of arrangements.
